American Basswood:  (Tilia americana - from the Linden Family)  Basswood is used for the wood blinds and wood shutters that we sell.  It is a premium wood  from a fast growing tree that has been favored by woodcarvers for centuries because of it’s workability and grain.  The wood is lightweight and odorless and the inner bark has many uses, from musical instruments to your window treatments.

Blackout Shades:    Blocks out virtually all light.  Provides the most privacy and light control.  An outside mount is suggested to avoid gaps between shade and window casing.

Continuous Cord:   Loop and clutch system to raise and lower large window coverings.

Controls for Blinds:   Controls are cords or wands that let  you tilt, lift or turn your blinds.  You may choose your control type and placement depending on your blind.

Fabric Tapes:   Decorative fabric that replaces the braided cord ladders on blinds.

Full Louvered Arch:   A shutter on an arched window which contains horizontal louvers on the entire window  (as opposed to a fan style).

Headrail:   Hardware system located at the top of the blind that houses all of the working mechanisms.

Hold Down Brackets:   Brackets that hold the blinds down to prevent them from swinging about on doors.

Light Filtering:   Diffuses light for soft, screened view.

Mounting

Inside mount:   The blind, shade or shutter is hung inside the window frame.

Outside mount:   The blind, shade or shutter is hung outside the window frame.

Routeless:   A feature on wood blinds in which slats do not have route holes cut for the braided cord.  Instead the cord is wrapped around the slat allowing less light to enter and more privacy.

Top-Down:   Shade opens from the top to the bottom.

Top-Down/Bottom Up:   Opens the shade from the top-down, bottom-up, or both

Tilt Bar:   Connects the shutter louvers to one another, coordinating their movement: located in the front center of the panel.
